A secret which has always been known
Moringa oleifera is original from the Indian Sub-continent and nowadays it is spread in the tropical area of the planet earth. For centuries, it was considered a traditional remedy for skin diseases, respiratory and digestive system disorders and an important ingredient for the preparation of foods. Peasant families often grew one or more trees to respond to their daily consumption.
Unique in the world
All parts of the plant are eatable, from the leaves to the roots, including seeds and flowers. Its protein content is complete and it contains 18 amino acids, all those required for necessity, 46 antioxidants e more than 90 nourishing substances among vitamins and minerals. By including twice the amount of proteins than those contained inside the eggs, 14 times the calcium of the cow milk, 4 times the vitamin A of the carrots, 7 times the vitamin C of oranges, twice the potassium of bananas, it is possible to say that moringa is the only plant with these properties.
From the leaves to the seeds
The whole moringa plant can improve the health and wellness of the body. As a tradition each part has a different application. Dried leaves are a powerful natural food supplement, while a fine cosmetic oil can be extracted from the seeds. In Madagascar the seeds are also used to purify the water. Finally, the flowers allow the bees to produce moringa honey.
Who are the producers?
As a choice, Moringa Wave does not own lands or plantations. Thanks to the ONG support, we selected small cooperative of producers that sell us their product. Together with them, we started a training program about moringa natural growing methods without the use of chemicals.
We provide the necessary equipment to let each producer work at his/her best. And of course, we operate under a tight local quality control system, even before the harvest and through all the natural transformation steps that bring to the packaging phase.
In addition to the support of the local economy, we focus on a series of educational activities on both Madagascan producers and consumers in synergy with the National Department of Nutrition (ONN), which manages all the programs about nutrition. We facilitate the creation of the income-generating activities inside the rural communities, without removing their traditional plantations. In collaboration with our partners, we are committed to solve the malnutrition problem by providing meals based on moringa inside the schools.
